I am proud to present my new series of paintings done on hand made paper from local plant life in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Alberto Valenzuela creates this wonderful paper from a wide variety of plants at PapelOaxaca in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca. The energy in the paper is what inspired me to make these images. The textures bring an added dimension to the works and added challenges as well.
I did not want to exhibit these behind glass because some of the energy would be lost. I asked a well-known Oaxaca artist (and good friend) Oscar Vasquez to teach me how to seal the paintings with beeswax to enhance their color and texture. I really enjoy learning new techniques and this was really fun.
